Hand in Hand,

Walking with the Psalms through Loneliness

Words of encouragement and hope alongside practical steps to walk right out of loneliness, into the Presence of God.

My Book

Hand in Hand, Walking with the Psalms through Loneliness is a collection of intimate reflections based on the ancient book of the Psalms. In an effort to discover a home for the human heart, I have compiled the wisdom and the promises of the Psalms as they relate to the universal need for acceptance, security, companionship, and love. A personal devotional resource, Hand in Hand provides short, independent reflections on key psalms, with companion verses and prayers.

Somewhere along the road of life, at one time or another, we all feel lonely. In the course of a lifetime, people move, people change, people die. Hand in Hand, Walking with the Psalms Through Loneliness is written for any person who has lived long enough to move away from home, marry or divorce, be transferred in a job, send children to college, experience the death of a loved one, or outlive their peer group. It speaks to those seeking God in the hard places of life.

Come relish the great comfort and hope in reading the Psalms. They are simple, honest, yet deeply personal and profound. The Psalms speak intimately to our circumstances, penetrating deep into our soul, healing places we often cannot reach on our own. In them, we encounter God’s tender presence and care in our lonely times. In them, we can come to an immovable knowledge that God is with us. We are not alone – no matter how we feel. Appropriating this knowledge changes our perspective not only in loneliness, but also in every other situation. God is not only present but also actively engaged in a powerful, pastoral way, bringing the fullness of his blessing into our lives.

“Exquisite, literary, and almost poetic…”
Ella Wall Prichard, Author of “Reclaiming Joy, A Primer for Widows”

“Elizabeth Head Black has given us a great gift. Through poignant and penetrating personal story and life-giving psalms, the heart of God is revealed. This is a much-needed book to remind us that we are never alone and the God who is with us is more loving, healing, and restorative than we can imagine. "Hand in Hand" nourishes the soul deeply, lifts the spirit, and is a must read to thrive in our increasingly disconnected world. In our culture where the majority of people name “loneliness” as their primary source of pain, Hand in Hand is a treasure for each of us and one to be shared.”
Carrie Boren Headington, Missioner for Evangelism, Episcopal Diocese of Dallas and
Founder of the Good News Initiative
